A new study published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine edited by researchers at Henry Ford Hospitals in the United States of America revealed that wearing face masks is closely related to reducing the risk of health care workers contracting the Coronavirus, according to "Medical Express".
Through a retrospective analysis of the internal hospital quality analysis database that was not related to electronic medical records, the researchers discovered a relationship between the commitment to wearing masks (face masks) in hospitals and the significant reduction in the rates of infection with the Coronavirus.
As the rates of coronavirus infection and hospitalization rates throughout Michigan continued to rise until late March 2020, cases among healthcare workers at Henry Ford Hospitals began to decline due to adherence to masks.
Stephen Calcanes, CEO of Henry Ford Medical Group said: “This research reinforces the fact that wearing a mask is effective in reducing the risk of corona infection and validated our decision early on to implement a comprehensive mask policy, not only to protect our team members, but also to ensure that they are able to care for patients. . "
The comprehensive mask-wearing policy issued on March 26, 2020 included all hospital employees wearing surgical masks and required employees to wear a mask at work while following all other personal protective equipment.
